After I did my Icebreaker, Some people asked me some questions. I feel that I didn’t answer it adequately. This speech is about giving a better.
Are you interested to know how you can learn anything with minimal effort?
I’d like to start by showing you my balls.
*Sortir balle de jonglerie et commencer à jongler*
I learned juggling as a new year challenge for 2023. I never practised more than 2 minutes a day. And this is the result. I will now reveal the key that I used to get here: NEUROPLASTICITY !
*Arrêter de jongler et déposer les balles*
Neuroplasticity is your brain’s capacity to change itself over time.
It applies to anything is related to the brain.
There is too much to say about neuroplasticity so I will focus on the 4 things you need to know to enhance your efficient learning.
- The act of Focusing is what sends a signal to your unconscious brain that what you’re focusing on needs to be learned and become more efficient.
- Doing more than 4 hours of Focused learning is detrimental to learning.
- The actual learning happens while you sleep. That is the moment that the brain is adapting itself to learn what you focused on and make it more efficient.
- The more an action is repeated over time, the more learned and efficient it becomes.
How did I apply this to juggling? I focused and did the best I can, Never practised more than 2 minutes a day, I slept well & I would do this every day.
I’ll show you my plan with a new juggling pattern that I’m currently learning.
*reprendre les balles et jongler mauvais pattern*
With only two balls, you practice 4 times from the right, 4x from the left. Then try ONLY 4 times to juggle as long as possible.
That is how I learned juggling, never practicing more than two minutes a day.
There is a reason that I wanted you to see me fail. Even though the explanation is simple, it doesn’t mean that the execution was simple.
What is lacking here is the journey and all the hurdles I had to get through.
Here are some moments of the journey:
At the end of the first month, I was filled with joy when I finally succeeded in catching the ball 5 times.
In the second month, I would always go forward and had to correct my left hand technique for the following two weeks.
In the third month, I was consistently catching the ball 5 times while remaining in one spot.
At the end of the 4th month, I finally became natural and easy.
There is a reason why I chose juggling as a concrete example. It doesn’t matter how smart you are, how money you have in your bank account, the degree you have, how athletic you are, etc.
It’s purely about muscle memory. Side note, muscle memory is not located in the muscles but in the cerebellum a part of the brain.
Think about what you need to do when juggling: You have to throw correctly, you have to ensure to not touch another ball when throwing, observe where the ball is falling, catch it, throw it again with the other hand and you have to do this for three balls at a time. It’s impossible to focus on everything, Your unconscious must help you. And it will, if the conscious part of you trains it to.
I’d like to come back to neuroplasticity.
Yes, kids have a more neuroplastic brains. Yes, neuroplasticity decreases with age. Yes, the age limit of neuroplasticity seems to be 25 years old. But, the latest research shows that even people as old as 90 years old with Alzheimer still have neuroplasticity when learning new things. Because neuroplasticity is like a muscle. The more you practice it, the better it becomes over time.
I said at the beginning that neuroplasticity applies to anything that the brain controls.
Well here are some questions for you the audience:
- What if, with minimal effort, you could learn any skill, attitude or state of mind?
- What if you could change any negative behavior, reaction, emotion, attitude, belief or personality trait?
- And maybe the most important question I have for you: what if you’re focusing on the wrong things and every single day that you do, you’re getting more and more learned and efficient at them?
There’s something that I purposefully left out: Yes, the unconscious learns what you’re focusing on but it doesn’t discriminate between learning things that are good or bad for you. It’s your focus that does it.
I’d like now to answer the people that came and asked me some questions:
If you choose to focus on the fact that you can’t work on yourself because you don’t have enough time, energy, money, the right degree, experience or any of those other reasons you brought to me, every single day that you do, you’re becoming more efficient at believing and you’re ensuring that you will never work on yourself.
I’d like to end by saying: yes you can learn anything, The only requirement is to focus and do the best you can every single day, even for just a few minutes.
And who knows? Maybe you’ll play with your own balls.
